About
Sportsparts was started almost by accident in 1966 by Phil Redhead from his home not far from where Sportsparts is currently located at Normanhurst.
Phil from his earliest days has been an MG enthusiast. Needing parts for his TC, and these not being readily available, he purchased a written-off car to be able to obtain the required parts. Friends hearing of this, requested he sell them parts from this car. Hence Sportsparts was born.
Some time later Phil and his wife Marta decided to go into the MG parts business fulltime. This was located on Loyalty Road in North Rocks.
Then later in order to be closer to home, a property, in Pennant Hills Road Thornleigh, was purchased and the business remained there until road widening necessitated demolition of the shop in 1987.
The business was then moved to Myrtle Street.
Phil sold the business in 1989. Since then it has been managed by Bruce Smith. A further move to the present larger premises was made in 1999.
